Power Cut Schedule Adjusted for School Exam Season
With the final exam season coming up, power cut schedules have been changed to accommodate students and exams.
In response to a request from the Ministry of Education to accommodate the second term exam season, the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company has adjusted its schedule for power cuts.
Starting from May 8th until July 20th, power cuts will be rescheduled from 3 PM to 7 PM instead of the previously scheduled 8 AM to 3 PM period, specifying that each power cut will not exceed two hours.
This adjustment comes after scheduled power cuts had resumed in April following a temporary pause during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr. The program began in July 2023 to lower the strain on Egypt's gas network due to increased air conditioning usage during rising temperatures, and is estimated to have saved USD 1 billion. These savings have been allocated for purchasing essential supplies such as foodstuffs and medicines.
