Alexandria Museum of Fine Arts to Showcase the Lost Works of Laurent Marcel Salinas
The Alexandria Museum of Fine Arts has managed to get their hands on the lost works of the great artist Laurent Marcel Salina, and is currently preparing a very special exhibition to showcase them.
Born in Alexandra in 1913 to a French mother and an Italian father, Laurent Marcel Salinas was a famed artist, mainly known for his landscapes, nudes and still-life paintings. Considered part of the Alexandrian cosmopolitan elite, Salinas initially studied law but was too much of an artist at heart. His artwork was frequently exhibited in the Alexandria Atelier next to the works of renowned Egyptian artists like Mahmoud Said and Mohamed Nagui. After the 1952 revolution, Salinas left Egypt along with his parents like many other expats at the time, and his early artworks were lost in the move – until now.
The Alexandria Museum of Fine Arts has managed to get their hands on the works of the great artist, through an unnamed Alexandrian’s private collection, and is currently preparing a very special exhibition to showcase them. We still don’t know the exact date of the exhibition, but what we do know is that it will be a collaboration of sorts between Egypt, Italy and France to celebrate the works of late artists which were thought to be gone for good.
