Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Opens Italian Photography Exhibition

The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir has opened ‘The Magic of Ancient Egypt Through an Italian Lens’, an exhibition offering a visual record of Egypt’s history between 1860 and 1940. The showcase features works by Italian photographers Antonio Beato, Giovanni Farazani and Enrico Leichter, whose images document everything from ancient monuments and archaeological sites to bustling urban streets.

Highlights include photographs of temples before modern restoration, the Sphinx still partially buried in sand, and early glimpses of Cairo’s dynamic streetscape alongside Luxor’s temples. The collection reflects Egypt’s layered heritage, captured at a pivotal moment in its history.

After opening in late August, the exhibition will run for three months. It is presented in collaboration between the Egyptian Museum, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the Italian Centre for Archaeology.
