Amir El Masry Chosen Amongst Best Actors of 2021 by The Guardian
Amir El Masry was praised for his award-winning performance in 'Limbo', a film about a Syrian musician awaiting the results of his asylum on a Scottish island.
Egyptian-British actor Amir El Masry has been chosen by UK publication The Guardian as one of the best actors of 2021 after an impressive showing in ‘Limbo’, directed by Ben Sharrock. The film itself was listed among the best films of the year not only on The Guardian, but also in The Playlist, which described the feature-length feature as “equal parts fish out of water and scathing political commentary.” Amir El-Masry was praised for his stoic sense of otherness, which has been described as core to the emotional makeup of the film.
‘Limbo’ follows El Masry as Omar, a young Syrian musician who gets separated from his family on a remote Scottish island, where he awaits the results of his asylum request. The role helped El Masry win ‘Best Actor’ at the BAFTA Scotland Awards earlier this year, while the movie itself went home with a total of four awards from the same event.
