Children’s Book ‘Yassin’s Kite’ Centres Palestine at Cairo Book Fair
Featured at the Cairo International Book Fair, ‘Yassin’s Kite’ presents Palestine through a child’s perspective.
‘Yassin’s Kite,’ an illustrated children’s book that centres the Palestinian experience, is being featured at the Cairo International Book Fair until January 31st.
Written by Qatari author Shaikha Al Zeyara and illustrated by Nefaish Studio, the bilingual book follows Yassin, a young Palestinian boy who attempts to send a letter to his grandparents using a paper kite. When the kite discovers that his grandparents have been displaced, it becomes a symbol of hope, resilience and connection. The story is designed to introduce young readers to life in Palestine through an accessible narrative that balances emotional sensitivity with cultural context.
Published last summer, ‘Yassin’s Kite’ aims to support children’s psychological and cognitive development while fostering global awareness and a sense of empathy. Its storytelling approach is tailored to young audiences, using vivid illustrations to reflect Palestinian history and spirit.
Characters from the book, Noura and Rashid, will appear at the fair on Thursday, January 29th from 10 AM to 8 PM, and on Friday and Saturday, January 30th and 31st, from 10 AM to 9 PM, giving children the opportunity to meet them in person. The 57th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair is currently underway at the Egypt International Exhibitions Centre in the Fifth Settlement and runs until February 3rd.
