Egypt Now Has a Dating App for Pets
Born from one very specific matchmaking request, ‘Shoflak Kalba’ now lets Egyptian pet owners find potential partners for dogs, cats, birds, horses and more.
‘Shoflak Kalba’ is Egypt’s newest pet dating app, because apparently even our pets are tired of being single.
The idea started when a friend asked developer Youssef Diaa if he knew anyone with a female German Shepherd who might be interested in his dog. Diaa didn’t, but instead of leaving it there, he decided to build a way for pet owners across Egypt to find potential matches themselves.
The result is essentially Tinder for pets, hopefully with fewer red flags.
Despite the name, the app is not limited to dogs. Cats, birds, horses and other domestic animals can also join the dating pool. Owners create individual profiles with details such as the pet’s name, age, breed, vaccinations and best qualities.
From there, users can swipe left or right through potential matches according to their pet’s type and preferences. If two profiles match, their owners can start chatting and, if all goes well, arrange a first meeting for the animals.
What started as one German Shepherd’s dating problem has therefore become a matchmaking platform for considerably more of Egypt’s single pets.
‘Shoflak Kalba’ is available on the App Store and Google Play.
