Louvre Abu Dhabi Launches Quantum Dome Virtual Reality Experience

Louvre Abu Dhabi has introduced the Quantum Dome, a year-long immersive virtual reality experience that brings ancient civilisations into the digital present. Located in the museum’s Lower Forum, the project allows visitors to explore reconstructed historical settings drawn from the museum’s collection.

Each 25-minute session accommodates up to 10 participants, who navigate expansive digital landscapes using wireless, full-body motion tracking. Rather than observing history from a distance, visitors move through it collaboratively, engaging directly with interactive environments.

The experience spans three meticulously recreated settings: the Forum of Augustus, linked to a first-century portrait of the Roman emperor; 13th-century Baghdad and its famed House of Wisdom, inspired by an illustrated page from De Materia Medica; and Mughal India, where reflective armour provides an entry point to the waters surrounding Jaipur’s Jal Mahal.

Developed in partnership with France’s Small Creative Studio, the Quantum Dome is available in Arabic, English, and French for visitors aged eight and above. Tickets start at AED 95 and can be booked through the museum’s official channels.
