Masahat Grant Opens for Filmmakers in Upper Egypt
The grant is open to young filmmakers based in Sohag, Assiut, Qena, and Luxor between the ages of 18 and 30.
Nghmsha, a film production company based in Sohag, has launched the second iteration of its Mesahat filmmaking grant to support creators in Upper Egypt. Mesahat is open to young filmmakers based in Sohag, Assiut, Qena, and Luxor.
Filmmakers do not need to have extensive experience to apply for the grant, but must be ready to commit to a period of 15 training days across 18 months. The training will include six workshops covering screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, sound, and production. The programme will accept between 40 and 60 young filmmakers between the ages of 18 and 30 years old.
Nghmsha was founded in 2016 as a cultural and production initiative dedicated to decentralising film and media creation in Egypt, with a focus on empowering storytellers from Upper Egypt. The company produces short and feature-length films, documentaries, and training programmes that highlight regional voices often overlooked in mainstream Egyptian cinema.
The project is implemented with the support of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture through a grant from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The deadline for application falls on November 30th.
