Ramy Youssef & Sharon Stone Team Up For A24 Comedy 'Martha & Muhammad'
Ramy Youssef's first feature follows a widowed New York socialite falling for a young Muslim man - with quite the age gap.
Egyptian-American comedian Ramy Youssef will star opposite Sharon Stone in 'Martha & Muhammad', a New York comedy he wrote himself and will direct with A24.
The story follows a wealthy white widowed socialite who falls for a much younger Muslim man, with class, faith, immigration and a sizeable age gap all pulling at the seams. Youssef is producing through his own banner, which he named Cairo Cowboy.
For anyone still catching up, Youssef was born in Queens and raised in Rutherford, New Jersey, by Egyptian immigrant parents. He built his name on the semi-autobiographical Hulu series 'Ramy', playing a first-generation Egyptian-American Muslim caught between his faith and everything tugging him away from it.
Since then, he co-created the Netflix series 'Mo' with Palestinian-American comedian Mohammed Amer, directed an episode of 'The Bear', turned up in Yorgos Lanthimos' 'Poor Things', and released two comedy specials, 'Feelings' and 'More Feelings'.
Cameras are expected to roll in New York this autumn, with reports pointing to October, though no release date has surfaced yet.
