Sister-Director Duo Dana & Raneem El Mohandes on Their Film ‘Musquito’

Sisters, writers, and directors Raneem and Dana Almohandes discuss their animated film 'A Mosquito' currently showing at the Red Sea Film Festival as part of SceneNowSaudi’s 'Rolling: Red Sea Saudi' series. Shaped by their Saudi-Egyptian identity, a pesky mosquito in New York, a love for Umm Kulthoom, and a visit to AlUla, their experiences inspired the film's unique story and landscape.

Set in 1969, 'A Mosquito' follows Zozo, a tiny mosquito with big dreams. While her buzzing companions are content with ordinary life in the majestic landscapes of AlUla, Saudi Arabia, Zozo dares to dream of becoming a famous singer — heading to Egypt to sing before the legendary Umm Kulthum.
