World’s Largest Mosaic Artwork Revealed in Emirate of Dubai

Created entirely out of mosaics to celebrate key national occasions in the UAE—including Flag Day on November 3rd and the upcoming 53rd Eid Al Etihad on December 2nd—the Zayed and Rashid Mural has officially been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest mosaic.

Unveiled at Hatta Dam Water Falls in the Emirate of Dubai, the record-breaking monument is a recreation of a historic photograph of the UAE’s founding fathers—Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum—that spans 2,198.7 square metres.

Part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, the mural, which was crafted by Russian artist Sergey Korbasov and a team of over 100 local and international artisans, was made using 1.2 million hand-cut mosaic pieces. These pieces were sourced from the local area, ensuring that the artwork is in harmony with the region’s natural environment and cultural context.

This installation is part of Dubai’s ongoing ‘Street Museum’ initiative, launched in 2016, which aims to highlight the UAE’s cultural identity and heritage through distinctive public art.
