Zawya Cinema Screens Youssry Nasrallah’s Epic Film ‘Bab El Shams’

Downtown Cairo’s Zawya Cinema will be screening Yousry Nasrallah’s four-and-a-half-hour epic film ‘Bab El Shams’ on Friday, June 7th at 4 PM. The screening will feature a restored version of the film, and will be followed by a discussion with award-winning director Youssry Nasrallah himself, which will be moderated by director Bassam Moratada.

Adapted from Elias Khoury’s acclaimed novel and originally released in 2004, the film chronicles the epic odyssey of Palestinians over a period of 50 years, documenting the trials of war, displacement and refugee life, as well as the solace found in love, resistance and dreams of return.

Given its length, Bab El Shams will be screened in two parts: ‘Part I - The Departure’ will run for135 minutes, and then after a 15-minute break, ‘Part II - The Return’ will run for 143 minutes. The film will be screened in Arabic with English subtitles. Tickets are EGP 200, and available to buy at the box office or online through the Elcinema website.
