220,000 Cars to Be Converted to Run on Natural Gas in Three-Year Plan
Since the initiative began in 2021, 643,000 vehicles have been converted.

A three-year plan to convert an additional 220,000 cars to run on natural gas was announced in a cabinet statement following a meeting between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi, and Central Bank Deputy Governor Essam Omar.
The plan begins with 50,000 conversions in fiscal year 2025/2026. Officials were directed to expand incentives and ease licensing for fueling stations to support the rollout. Monthly fuel savings per car are estimated at EGP 2,270.
Since the initiative began in 2021, 643,000 vehicles have been converted. In 2024/25, 90,000 conversions are targeted. The initiative aims to cut carbon emissions by 1.5 million tons annually and reduce diesel use by 50%.
