47 Ships Resume Use of Suez Canal Since Early February 2025
The Suez Canal Authority projected further increases in traffic following the January 19th ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

The Suez Canal has seen 47 ships return to use its route since early February, bypassing the longer Cape of Good Hope alternative. At the MARLOG conference in Alexandria, officials from the Suez Canal Authority projected further increases in traffic as regional stability improves following the January 19th ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
Canal revenues dropped by 60% in 2024 to USD 4 billion. To address the impact, transit fees were stabilized, and maritime services expanded. A recent expansion in the southern section increased daily capacity from six to eight ships, improving navigational efficiency.
