Additional EGP 4 Billion Allocated for Social Protection Programmes

The Ministry of Finance has announced an additional EGP 4 billion allocation for Egypt’s social protection programme, ensuring increased support for low-income households during Ramadan.

Of this sum, EGP 2 billion has been directed to the Ministry of Supply, allowing for a temporary increase in food subsidy allocations for March and April 2025. Under the updated scheme, individuals with single-member ration cards will receive an extra EGP 125, while households with two or more members will receive EGP 250.

Additionally, the government is providing an extra EGP 300 per household this month to five million families enrolled in the Takaful and Karama programme, amounting to EGP 1.5 billion in direct aid. The programme’s pension value is also set to increase by 25% beginning in April 2025.

Beyond direct financial aid, the government has allocated EGP 3 billion to purchase cotton from local farmers, with an additional EGP 500 million expected to be disbursed in the near future.
