Egyptian film, ‘My Father’s Scent’, has been selected for the Final Cut in Venice project which takes place on the sidelines of the Venice Biennale. The Final Cut project has been an ongoing feature of the Biennale since 2013, with an aim to facilitate the screenings of film still in post production from African and Arab countries.
‘My Father’s Scent’ stars Ahmed Malek in the leading role, as well as Kamal El Basha and Mayan El Sayed, and is directed by Mohamed Siam. The story follows a son visiting his ill father after a long absence, and navigates the dysfunction and secrets in their relationship. Taking place during the festival of Eid Al Adha, the film contrasts between cultural practices, lavish displays of celebration, as well as familial themes of childhood neglect, parental worry, and old-age sadness.
