Amir El-Masry & Mayan El Sayed to Star in Upcoming Romcom '#Gawwezni'

British-Egyptian actor and Scottish BAFTA winner Amir El Masry stars alongside Egyptian actress Mayan El Sayed in ‘#Gawwezni’, a romantic comedy set to hit theatres at the end of 2022.

The film follows El-Masry’s character Fares, who falls madly in love with Lily, the character played by El Sayed. But because of a magic spell he finds that he literally can’t act on his feelings. A series of hilarious misunderstandings ensues. Veteran Egyptian actors Sabrine and Bayoumi Fouad are also joining the cast, which will be led by first-time filmmaker Essam Nassar.

Amir El Masry is currently filming ‘Magnoon Beek’, the Arabic remake of ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ alongside a cast of young actors including Mariam El Khosht and Adam El Sharkawy. The actor is also set to appear in Season 5 of Netflix’s ‘The Crown’, where he will depict Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed - the father of Dodi Al-Fayed - during his youth. Mayan El Sayed meanwhile has recently starred in Season 3 of ‘Al-Ikhtiar’ and ‘Laabet Newton’.

‘#Gawwezni’ is a co-production between the Saudi Arabian content company Arabia Pictures Group and Tanweer, a Greece-based audiovisual group. It will be the first of three upcoming feature films yet to be released in the MENA region, all featuring rising talents.
