Arsène Wenger, former Arsenal manager and FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, has introduced a FIFA-backed talent development programme in Cairo. The initiative is set to enhance youth training, elevate coaching standards and develop football infrastructure across Egypt.
During his visit to the Egyptian Football Association’s (EFA) headquarters, Wenger engaged with officials to explore the country’s football structure and its future potential. The programme will commence with a scouting and training initiative, designed to equip local football experts with the skills needed to identify and support emerging talent across all governorates, including rural areas. A FIFA workshop has already taken place, focusing on refining talent identification strategies and improving training methodologies for EFA academy staff.
EFA President Hany Abu Rida, who extended the invitation to Wenger, will attend the official press conference at the association’s new headquarters in October City.
Wenger also addressed FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup and the growing role of clubs in shaping global football. Meanwhile, FIFA’s Director of Refereeing, Massimo Busacca, will oversee a referee development workshop alongside international instructor Óscar López.
