Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station to More Than Double Peak Capacity
The project expands the station from 6,700 to 8,500 square metres, with upgraded entrances, bridges, concourses, escalators, lifts, more fare gates and new retail.
The Roads and Transport Authority, working in collaboration with Emaar Properties, will expand the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station to accommodate rising passenger demand during peak periods and large-scale events in Downtown Dubai.
Under the project, the station’s hourly capacity will increase from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers. Once completed, the upgraded station is expected to handle up to 220,000 passengers per day, easing congestion during New Year’s Eve celebrations, public holidays and other major occasions in the area surrounding Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
The station’s total area will expand from 6,700 square metres to 8,500 square metres. Planned works include upgraded entrances, wider pedestrian bridges, expanded concourse areas and the installation of additional escalators and lifts to improve circulation. The project also adds more fare gates and new retail outlets within the station footprint, alongside design changes intended to streamline access for both residents and visitors.
Passenger usage at the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station has grown by 7.5% over the past five years, reinforcing the need for capacity upgrades at one of the Dubai Metro network’s busiest stations.
