Cabinet: No Electricity Price Increase in Egypt in January 2026
The update follows public concerns after a six-month tariff postponement ended in December; the last electricity tariff increase was in August 2024.
Egypt’s Cabinet has said there will be no electricity price increase in January, according to Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany. The clarification follows public concerns over potential tariff adjustments after a six-month postponement period was set to end in December.
Egypt last raised electricity tariffs in August 2024. At the time, households using prepaid metres faced increases ranging from 14% to 40%. Commercial users saw hikes of 23.5% to 46%, while industry users had increases of 21.2% to 31%. The government has previously pledged to gradually phase out energy subsidies as part of an ongoing economic reform programme.
El-Homsany also ruled out any increases in petroleum product prices following the most recent rise in October, adding that no new decision has been issued to raise fuel prices in the near term.
