Cairo to Redevelop Sidewalks for People with Disabilities
The ministry has established a specialized unit for people with disabilities to overlook this project, which will implement it alongside Misr El Kheir Foundation.
The Ministry of Local Development and non-profit development institute Misr El Kheir Foundation have signed an agreement to redevelop Cairo’s sidewalks to become accessible to people with disabilities, and promote inclusivity in public infrastructure.
The first neighbourhood slated for redevelopment is Maadi, with preparations underway for the sidewalks along 28 of its streets. These adjustments will allow anyone on wheelchairs to navigate Maadi’s streets with complete independence.
The ministry has established a specialized unit for people with disabilities to overlook this project. In Cairo’s downtown area, Tahrir Square and its neighbouring streets have already undergone similar redevelopment for increased accessibility.
