Cargo Ship Ever Given Seized for USD 900 Million in Compensation
The bill was sent by the Suez Canal Authority to the cargo ship's Japanese owner to compensate for maintenance costs and damage to the Suez Canal's reputation.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has seized the Ever Given, the supergiant Evergreen cargo ship which blocked the Suez Canal for nearly a week, until a compensation bill of USD 900 million is paid. The bill was sent by an Egyptian court to Shoei Kisen Kaisha, the Japanese owner of the ship, to compensate for the cost of maintenance and loss in reputation brought about by the blockage, among other factors.
Although the amount of the bill is currently being disputed by the ship's insurers, the SCA has announced that the Ever Given will continue to be seized until a resolution has been reached.
