Dar Al-Iftaa Sets Zakat Al-Fitr at EGP 35 for 2026
The 2026 Zakat Al-Fitr minimum is set at EGP 35 per person, with payment allowed in cash from the start of Ramadan until before Eid prayer.
Dar Al-Iftaa has set the minimum value of Zakat Al-Fitr for 2026 at EGP 35 per person, in coordination with the Islamic Research Academy at Al-Azhar.
The ruling applies to the Hijri year 1447 and the Gregorian year 2026. The institution clarified that EGP 35 represents the minimum due for each individual, while recommending that those who are financially able give more. The amount is calculated per person to provide clarity on the minimum obligation.
According to Dar Al-Iftaa, the valuation is based on 2.04 kilograms of wheat per person, identified as the predominant staple food in Egypt. The figure was used as the baseline for determining the monetary equivalent.
The institution also reaffirmed that Zakat Al-Fitr may be paid in cash rather than in grains. It cited the opinions of Imam Abu Hanifa, a group of Maliki jurists, and Imam Ahmad in one narration, among others, noting that payment in monetary form helps recipients better meet their needs.
Dar Al-Iftaa stated that its fatwa position is settled on permitting the payment of the monetary value. Regarding timing, the guidance specifies that Zakat Al-Fitr may be paid from the first day of Ramadan and remains due until before the Eid Al-Fitr prayer.
