Driverless Robotaxis are Now Accepting Rides on Yas Island
This marks the first time fully driverless vehicles are offered on Uber’s platform outside the US.
Fully driverless robotaxis, operated by WeRide in partnership with Uber, are now publicly available on Yas Island. Passengers requesting UberX or Uber Comfort may be matched with a WeRide robotaxi — or choose an “Autonomous” ride option in the app, marking the first time fully driverless vehicles are offered on Uber’s platform outside the US. The robotaxi service received official approval in October, securing a permit for Level-4 commercial operation without on-board safety drivers. The rollout on Yas Island forms part of a broader plan by WeRide and Uber to expand autonomous mobility across more areas in Abu Dhabi by the end of 2025.
