Dubai's Reef Project will deploy 20,000 reef modules to boost biodiversity, with the first 1,000 set for November.
Dubai is embarking on an ambitious initiative to build one of the world's largest marine reef developments—the Dubai Reef Project—to transform the city’s shores and enhance marine biodiversity.
In partnership with leading Korean reef developer HaejooX, Dubai plans to deploy 20,000 purpose-built reef modules over three years. These modules will provide refuge and shelter for juvenile marine species, significantly contributing to local ecosystems. The first batch of 1,000 modules is expected to be deployed as early as November.
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted the project's extensive scale, which will cover 600 square kilometers and exceed 400,000 cubic meters in volume.
The Dubai Reef Project not only aims to boost fish stocks and support sustainable fishing but also addresses global climate change challenges. This effort reflects Dubai's commitment to environmental preservation and its goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
