Egypt Alleviates 85% of Nationwide Drug Shortage
The government has launched five new pharmaceutical factories and released USD 2 billion in medical products since March.
The Pharmaceutical Chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FDI) announced that 85% of Egypt’s nationwide medicine shortage has been alleviated. The announcement was made during the 11th edition of Pharmaconex, a prominent pharmaceutical industry event.
Five new pharmaceutical factories have been inaugurated across the country in 2024, all funded by Egyptian investments. These new facilities are expected to bolster local medicine production, addressing ongoing shortages and reducing dependence on imported drugs.
In parallel with these efforts, Egypt has released pharmaceutical products and spare parts for medical equipment valued at USD 2 billion since the Egyptian pound's liberalization in March, according to the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA). The move aims to stabilize the country's healthcare system by ensuring the steady availability of essential medical supplies.
