Egypt Gets Its First Double Decker Train Desiro
The train will operate on the first line of the newly established high-speed rail network.
According to the National Tunnels Authority, Egypt has recently received its first double-decker train, a Desiro HC model, which will operate on the first line of the newly established high-speed rail network.
Currently stationed in the New Administrative Capital, the train is made up of two floors and will be able to accommodate 849 passengers while travelling up to 160 kph.
Last year, the Egyptian government announced their plans to transform domestic and regional connectivity through a vast new high-speed rail network. As well as generating jobs and integrating different modes of travel, the high-speed network aims to link industrial and agricultural areas to ports and markets.
The extensive four-line system will cover over 2,250km, linking more than 80 Egyptian cities with neighbouring countries including Libya and Sudan. It will be travelling at a speed of up to 250 kph.
