Egypt Needs 450,000 Housing Units Annually to Meet Population Growth

Egypt requires 450,000 new housing units annually to accommodate its growing population, according to the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities.

The ministry aims to construct 200,000 units annually, allocating 150,000 for low-income groups and 50,000 for middle-income households. To enhance housing development, the ministry is optimising land use, restructuring governance and fostering private sector partnerships. Additionally, a new initiative, ‘Your Home in Egypt’, will allow expatriates to invest in housing, providing tailored benefits in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Immigration.

On infrastructure, the ministry noted progress in water and sewage projects under the Hayah Karima initiative, which targets rural development. It also addressed reforms in legal processes, including ownership transfers and reconciliation of building statuses.
