Egypt’s Media Regulator Bans Mido From Media Appearances
The decision follows remarks made by Mido about the national football team during a podcast appearance hosted by Abu El-Maati Zaki.
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation has ordered all media outlets subject to Law No. 180 of 2018 to prevent the appearance of football coach Ahmed Hossam Mido until the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.
The decision follows remarks made by Mido during a podcast appearance hosted by Abu El-Maati Zaki, which were later published on the host’s social media accounts. The comments were deemed to insult and question the achievements of the Egypt national football team during the 2006–2010 period.
The ruling was issued by the council under the chairmanship of Khaled Abdelaziz, after observations recorded by the General Administration for Monitoring.
The decision was based on recommendations submitted by two bodies: the Complaints Committee, chaired by Essam El Amir, deputy chair of the council, and the Committee for Regulating Sports Media Performance, chaired by Abdel Salam El Nagar, a council member and Deputy President of the State Council.
The restriction applies across all media platforms governed by the law and will remain in force until the investigation is completed. According to the council, the Complaints Committee will summon Ahmed Hossam Mido for a hearing, after which its findings and recommendations will be submitted to the Supreme Council for Media Regulation for a final decision.
No timeline has been announced for the hearing or the issuance of a ruling.
