Egypt’s Teaching Hospitals Launch Advanced Stroke Care Program
GOTHI introduces Egypt’s first Advanced Stroke Life Support program, in partnership with the American Heart Association.
The General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes (GOTHI) has unveiled Egypt's first-ever Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) program. The ASLS is a specialised training initiative aimed at enhancing emergency stroke care. Developed in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA), the program seeks to equip medical teams with the skills necessary to deliver rapid and effective treatment, potentially saving thousands of lives.
With stroke statistics revealing a significant global burden - one stroke every 40 seconds and one death every three minutes, according to AHA - the program’s launch addresses a critical need. In Egypt, where an estimated 171,750 to 239,400 stroke cases occur annually according to data from the World Health Organization, this program looks to reduce fatalities through improved medical response.
The ASLS program will be facilitated through the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes (GOTHI) training center, accredited by the AHA. It represents a new standard for medical training in Egypt, enabling healthcare providers to adopt globally recognised protocols.
This program complements existing stroke care units in hospitals across Egypt, such as those in Matariya and Shebin El Koum, and aims to expand expertise across the country.
