Egyptian Short Film ‘Lewahdena’ Accepted at Aesthetica Film Festival
The English-language Egyptian short film, directed by Tara Shehata, stars Amir El-Masry and Tamima Hafez.
‘Lewahdena’, an Egyptian short film starring Amir El-Masry and Tamima Hafez, has been accepted at the BAFTA and BIFA qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival in the UK. The drama film, shot primarily in English but set in Egypt, is directed by Tara Shehata, who previously directed ‘The Shadow of Cairo’, a film selected at Oscar qualifying New York International Children’s Film Festival where it was a finalist for the Jury Award, helms the project.
The short film follows Karim, played by El-Masry, and Nadine, played by Hafez. The two secretly meet in Nadine's family apartment while her parents are away on vacation. But when her parents return unexpectedly, the couple is forced to hastily escape, scrambling to erase all evidence of their encounter.
Earlier in 2024, Amir El-Masry’s film ‘See It Say It’ was featured at the SXSW Film Festival, and his latest work, ‘In Camera’, is slated for release on September 13th in the UK, Europe and Ireland. Tamima Hafez is known for her roles in the 2022 Shahid series ‘Mon’ataf Khatter’ and the 2021 series ‘Hagma Mortada’.
