Emirates Airline Receives Award for Autism-Friendly Check-In
The airline’s staff received specialised training, allowing them to better cater to the needs of travellers with autism.
Emirates has earned a Certified Autism Centre Designation award in recognition of the airline’s commitment to make check-in more accessible for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Every Emirates check-in facility at Dubai International Airport, as well as inner-city pre-flight check-in locations, received the certification ahead of World Autism Awareness Day.
The designation confirms that Emirates staff has received specialised training on ASD and sensory awareness, allowing them to better cater to the needs of autistic travellers and those with sensory sensitivities. Check-in facilities themselves were also assessed for sensory inputs such as sound and light levels, which can affect some passengers with ASD.
Only last month, Dubai’s Atlantis resort received the same award for efforts to make its facilities as friendly as possible to guests with ASD, as part of continued efforts throughout the Emirates to improve accessibility, particularly in the tourism sector.
