Family Affairs Council Bans Firing Women During Pregnancy Leave
Employers are also mandated to provide fully paid leave to women during pregnancy and maternity leave.
The Family Affairs Council has issued a clear warning to employers regarding the protection of working women during pregnancy and maternity leave. The council emphasized that employers are prohibited from dismissing or warning female employees of potential dismissal during these periods.
This protective measure extends to cover periods of illness resulting from pregnancy or maternity leave, provided that the illness is documented by an approved medical certificate. However, it is stipulated that the total duration of illness-related absence should not exceed 180 days per year, whether these days are consecutive or intermittent.
Employers are also mandated to provide fully paid leave to women during pregnancy and maternity leave. They are permitted to verify medical documentation to ensure transparency and accountability. This policy is part of a broader effort to safeguard women's rights in the workplace, ensuring they can navigate pregnancy and motherhood without fear of losing their jobs.
The Family Affairs Council's initiative is aimed at fostering a more stable and supportive work environment, encouraging women's continued participation in the Saudi labor market.
