First Eco-Friendly Telecommunications Tower in Egypt is Being Built
The new tower will emit 40% less carbon emissions compared to a regular communications tower.

Telecom Egypt and Chinese multinational technology corporation Huawei Technologies are collaborating to establish the first environmentally-friendly communications tower in Egypt.
Telecom Egypt is the first company in Egypt and the African continent to build such a tower using fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) armour instead of traditional steel materials, which contain high emissions of carbon dioxide. The tower will be 18 metres tall, with a special camouflaged fence supported by integrated wireless access solutions and a green solar energy system. The FRP design makes the tower highly resistant to severe environmental conditions, like corrosion due to exposure to chemicals and high temperatures. The technology of antennas integrated with signal amplifiers, which are being used by Telecom Egypt beyond this tower, helps reduce the energy consumption of a single site by about 40% compared to traditional sites. These technologies also help improve the quality of the signal by about 20% compared to regular antennas, eventually leading to the reduction of the number of towers.
