Use of Foreign Driving Licences in Saudi Arabia is Now Restricted
Saudi Arabia now allows foreign drivers to use international licences for only one year from entry, while GCC citizens may drive with their home country licences for their full validity.

Saudi Arabia has updated its regulations concerning the use of foreign and international driving licences within the Kingdom. According to the new rules, foreign drivers may operate vehicles using an international or foreign licence for a maximum of one year from the date of entry into the country, or until the licence expires - whichever occurs first. To be valid, the licence must correspond to the type of vehicle being driven. Additionally, all such licences must be translated by an accredited body to ensure the accuracy and clarity of the information provided.
The updated policy does not apply to citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. GCC nationals may continue to drive in Saudi Arabia using a valid licence issued in their home country without the need to obtain a temporary Saudi licence. These licences may be used for the full period of their validity. However, international driving permits issued within the GCC are not considered valid for driving across GCC borders, including in Saudi Arabia.
