Saudi Renewable Energy Capacity Rises 87% to 12.3 GW

Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy capacity rose by nearly 87% year-on-year to 12,332 megawatts in 2025, up from 6,601 megawatts in 2024, according to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency.

The increase represents a net addition of approximately 5,731 megawatts, driven primarily by the rollout of utility-scale solar projects across the Kingdom.

Solar energy accounted for the vast majority of new capacity.

Total installed solar reached 11,932 megawatts in 2025, compared to 6,201 megawatts the previous year.

Within this, solar photovoltaic capacity rose by 5,731 megawatts to 11,882 megawatts, while concentrated solar power remained unchanged at 50 megawatts.

Onshore wind capacity also remained stable at 400 megawatts. Overall, solar technologies made up around 97% of Saudi Arabia’s net renewable capacity additions in 2025.

Across the broader Middle East, total installed renewable capacity reached a record 56 gigawatts in 2025, marking a 28.9% increase compared to 2024, reflecting continued expansion led by solar deployment.
