First Female Representative of Public Prosecution Office Serves Case
Women have been making advances in Egypt's male-dominated judicial bodies in recent years.
For the first time, a woman has been chosen to represent the Egyptian Public Prosecution Office in an ongoing trial. Deputy Attorney General Mrs. Dalia Mahmoud is serving as a public prosecutor in a trial in Kerdasa, Giza, in which the defendant is accused of premeditated murder.
In recent years, women have been making advances in Egypt's judicial bodies, which is regarded as a male-dominated field. In October 2021, the first female judges were sworn into the State Council, with 50 women taking the role of vice-counselors and 48 becoming assistant counselors. In February 2022, female law graduates were allowed to apply to join the judiciary system as judges for the first time since the establishment of the State Council in 1946.
