Flexible Hours & Remote Work Cut Dubai's Morning Peak Travel by 30%
Dubai’s new traffic efficiency measures aim to improve mobility by redistributing commuter demand across different times and locations.
Flexible working hours and remote work policies have reduced morning peak travel times by up to 30% across Dubai, according to new research from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Government Human Resources Department.
The study highlights the effectiveness of these measures in redistributing commuter traffic. If 20% of employees worked remotely, traffic could decrease by nearly 10% on key routes, while flexible working hours alone could reduce congestion by an additional 5% to 6%.
The research surveyed over 12,000 private sector employees and 644 companies, revealing that 32% of businesses already offer remote work options, and 31% provide flexible working hours. The data shows a growing willingness to expand these policies, with many companies reporting positive impacts on employee productivity and well-being. The shift to more flexible work arrangements is part of Dubai’s broader strategy to manage traffic demand and improve overall mobility.
These measures are part of a larger plan approved by Dubai’s leadership to enhance traffic efficiency while balancing business productivity and quality of life. By promoting flexible work schedules and remote work, Dubai aims to alleviate pressure on the city's transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic-related stress, and foster a more sustainable urban environment.
