Grand Egyptian Museum Named Amongst Most Beautiful Museums in 2024

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has been recognized as one of the most beautiful museums in the world by the Prix Versailles 2024. Designed by architectural firms Heneghan Peng and Arup, GEM is praised for blending Pharaonic heritage with modern innovation.

The Prix Versailles, established in 2015, is an internationally recognised award that honours architectural achievements in various categories, including museums, universities and airports. It celebrates structures that embody originality, innovation, and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Paris and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Alaa Youssef, accepted the certificate of recognition during a ceremony held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

During his address, Ambassador Youssef highlighted the GEM’s cultural and architectural significance, emphasising its integration of ancient Egyptian history with the iconic Giza Pyramids. He noted that the museum’s modern design incorporates advanced structural engineering techniques to ensure environmental sustainability while maintaining its connection to Egypt’s heritage.
