Health Ministry Eliminates Medical Paper Records
The announcement was made at a ceremony recognising Egypt as the first in the region to meet WHO’s hepatitis B control target.
The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the complete elimination of paper records across all health offices, marking a step in Egypt’s healthcare digital transformation. Deputy Minister Dr. Amr Qandil confirmed that a unified digital system has been rolled out across health and vaccination offices nationwide, in order to improve service delivery and administrative efficiency.
As part of the new system, parents receive automated SMS reminders 48 hours before scheduled vaccination appointments. The ministry currently operates around 5,300 vaccination points across the country, administering approximately 65 million doses annually. These include vaccinations for newborns, schoolchildren, healthcare workers, high-risk groups such as dialysis patients, and refugees.
The announcement was made during a ceremony celebrating Egypt’s achievement in hepatitis B control, where the country was recognised as the first in the Eastern Mediterranean region to meet the World Health Organization’s target of reducing prevalence below 1% among children aged five and older.
This digital shift is part of the broader national strategy to integrate technology into public health infrastructure and expand access to comprehensive healthcare services.
