Hend Sabry Named on BBC's 2024 List of Influential Women

Tunisian actress Hend Sabry, renowned for her roles in Arab films and shows including the hit Netflix series ‘Finding Ola’, has been named on the BBC’s 100 Women 2024, an annual list of 100 inspiring and influential women.

Sabry, described by the BBC as one of the most famous women in Arab cinema, made history in 2019 as the first Arab woman to serve as a judge at the Venice Film Festival. She also gained attention for her resignation as a UN Goodwill Ambassador in November, protesting the use of starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza.

Responding to the news, Sabry shared on her Instagram page that she dedicated the nomination “to the women of Gaza , the most resilient , brave , and enduring women on Earth.”

Other women featured on the list include Egyptian fem-tech entrepreneur Nour Emam, astronaut Sunita Williams, rape survivor Gisèle Pelicot, actress Sharon Stone, Olympic athletes Rebeca Andrade and Allyson Felix, singer Raye, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad, visual artist Tracey Emin, climate campaigner Adenike Oladosu, and writer Cristina Rivera Garza.

100 Women is an annual BBC series that highlights influential women from around the world, showcasing their achievements and impact in various fields. Launched in 2013, the series examines the role of women in the 21st century and includes broadcasts, debates, and online content.
