The film, set in 2007 at Cairo’s Giza Zoo, follows a principled zoologist – played by Helmy - navigating shrinking resources, a tense home life and a wrenching offer to “adopt” surplus animals. Sabry takes on the role of a mother caught between faith, fear and a need to survive. ‘His Weakest Creatures’ explores the unfolding of small moral choices into bigger questions, using the zoo as a setting for broader reflections on family and sacrifice.
Director Omar Hilal, who previously wrote and directed beloved film ‘Voy! Voy! Voy!’, said, “Growing up in Cairo, the Giza Zoo was both a place of wonder and quiet tragedy. ‘His Weakest Creatures’ captures that tension between beauty and decay, love and loss.”
The project is co-produced by Film Clinic, Front Row, Arabia Pictures and B Square, with shooting set to start on November 14th in Cairo.
