Japan Pledges USD 233.5 Million for Egypt’s Economy & Agriculture
The agreement includes USD 230 million for budget support and policy development aimed at fostering private sector growth.
The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation announced that Japan has granted Egypt USD 233.5 million in financing to support economic development and cultural projects.
The agreement includes USD 230 million allocated for budget support and policy development aimed at fostering private sector growth, economic diversification, and structural reforms.
The remaining USD 3.5 million will be utilised to renovate the Cairo Opera House and expand access to agricultural mechanisation. The cultural grant will enhance the Egyptian Cultural Centre by upgrading equipment and services in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Meanwhile, the agricultural grant aims to provide affordable mechanised technology, increasing productivity, expanding farmland, and improving farmer livelihoods.
Egypt’s participation in Japan’s 70th anniversary of development cooperation highlighted their shared history, dating back to 1954. Over seven decades, Japan has provided Egypt with USD 2.4 billion in grants and USD 7.2 billion in development financing.
