Joby's Electric Air Taxi Service to Take Flight in Saudi Arabia
Joby and GACA will collaborate on operational guidelines for air-taxi services, airworthiness harmonisation, pilot licensing, maintenance regulations, and integration into Saudi airspace.
California-based Joby Aviation has signed a memorandum of understanding with the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) to help introduce electric air-taxi services to Saudi Arabia. The partnership will use U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification standards as a reference framework to support local approvals and regulatory readiness.
Under the MoU, Joby and GACA will collaborate on operational guidelines for air-taxi services, airworthiness harmonisation, pilot licensing, maintenance regulations, and integration into Saudi airspace.
The agreement builds on Joby’s previous partnership with Abdul Latif Jameel, which includes the potential delivery of up to 200 aircraft, valued at roughly USD 1 billion, for future deployment in the Kingdom.
According to GACA, the partnership is a key step in advancing Saudi Arabia’s wider mobility and transport transformation goals under Vision 2030, particularly in the emerging advanced-air-mobility sector.
