Ministry of Social Solidarity Implements Homelessness Relief Campaign
The relief effort encompasses several cold-affected governorates, and includes blanket and hot meal distribution.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity is conducting a nationwide relief campaign for homeless individuals. Carried out across several governorates, the campaign involves transferring unsheltered people to social care institutions for comprehensive support and suitable housing. Additionally, blankets and hot meals are provided to those who opt not to relocate.
Collaborating with volunteers, team members spread out to numerous squares in both the capital and the most cold-affected governorates, using vehicles filled with blankets and food to assist people in those areas.
Addressing almost 350 cases within a span of two days across 10 governorates, the rapid intervention team's campaign aims to bolster the state of preparedness in tackling the ongoing cold weather conditions throughout the country.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority issued a warning about cold weather and strong winds expected throughout the upcoming week. Thick clouds are forecasted to descend upon northern Egypt and Cairo, where there have already been instances of moderate rainfall.
Established in 2014, the rapid intervention team receives reports of abuses against residents of social care institutions, as well as reports of abuses against homeless children and the elderly. Reports can be submitted through the ministry's hotline (16439), the cabinet's hotline (16528), or through observations made via media outlets and social media sites.
