Sign Language Interpreters to Be Supported at Egyptian Universities
University solidarity units will aid students with disabilities with funding, assistive devices and after case assessments.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity announced support for students with hearing disabilities in education and employment as part of World Hearing Day.
A ministry report stated that deaf and hard-of-hearing students in public universities will have sign language interpreters in special education faculties, with the ministry covering their fees.
University-based solidarity units are identifying students with disabilities, offering financial aid, tuition coverage after case assessments, and assistive devices such as prosthetics, wheelchairs and hearing aids. Training programs and workshops are also provided.
The Taaheel network, launched with the Ministries of Communications and Labor, connects persons with disabilities to training, employment and vocational certification programs, supporting job placements and the 5% employment quota.
Economic support includes vocational training, handicraft exhibitions, and microloans in coordination with Nasser Social Bank.
The ministry, in collaboration with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, is conducting sign language workshops for rehabilitation office staff and launched a training program to assist persons with hearing disabilities in accessing services.
