Egypt's Drug Authority Secures 55% of 2026 Drug Raw Materials

Egypt's Drug Authority revealed that approximately 55% of the required pharmaceutical raw materials for 2026 have been secured, with strategic reserves covering up to six months for most essential medicines and biological preparations.

The Egyptian Drug Authority stated that the domestic market remains stable and that it is closely tracking shipments in coordination with companies to ensure the continuity of supply chains and the availability of both raw materials and finished products. The authority said local stocks cover the majority of consumer needs and that reserves include treatments for blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, oncology and complex biologicals.

Assistant Chairman Yassin Ragai said 80% of active ingredients in the market have stock sufficient for more than three months of production. He added that local manufacturing now accounts for 91% of necessary medicines, which the authority said enhances market resilience by reducing reliance on imports.

The Egyptian Drug Authority also cited daily monitoring of pharmaceutical shipments as part of efforts to maintain adequate supplies across the sector.

The authority reported that pharmaceutical exports reached 147 countries in 2025 with a total value of USD 1.3 billion, reflecting a growth of more than 20%.
