Multiple Sclerosis Helpline Launched to Support Patients & Caregivers
The hotline - the first of its kind in the UAE - looks to prioritise specialised care and support for the growing MS community.
The first dedicated helpline in the UAE for individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS) has just launched. Developed by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) in collaboration with Abu Dhabi’s health technology company M42, and supported by Mubadala through the Mubadala Foundation, the MS Helpline aims to provide comprehensive support tailored to the needs of the MS community.
MS is a lifelong condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. It occurs when the immune system attacks the protective layer of nerve fibers, disrupting communication between the brain and the body. While there is no cure, treatments are available to help manage symptoms.
The prevalence of MS in Abu Dhabi is higher than the global average, highlighting the importance of accessible and specialised support systems. The MS Helpline was developed in consultation with the MS community, ensuring it addresses their unique needs and concerns.
Available daily from 10 AM to 10 PM by dialing 800677, the helpline offers personalised assistance that includes referrals to specialists, mental health assessments and access to critical resources.
