Naguib Mahfouz Museum Offer Free Entry Until End of August

In honour of the anniversary of the passing of Egyptian Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz, the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Development Fund is offering free entry to the Naguib Mahfouz Museum between August 22nd and the 31st.

Mahfouz passed away on August 30th 2006, after penning over 30 novels and more than 20 short stories, all of which took place in an Egyptian neighbourhood which served as a microcosm for the whole world. Mahfouz was the first Egyptian and the first Arab writer to win a Nobel Prize for Literature.

The museum, located in Al Azhar, was renovated in July 2019 at a cost of EGP 15.4 million, and displays the writer’s medals, certificated, personal papers, photographs, books, as well as his glasses, a rosary and two pens gifted to Mahfouz by fellow writer Tawfiq Al-Hakim.
