New 1.6km Six-Lane Tunnel is Being Built in Dubai
The Al Khaleej Street Tunnel is part of the long-running multi-billion dirham Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project.
The Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, a new six-lane tunnel, is under construction in Dubai at a cost of AED 5.3 billion. The tunnel will extend from the end of the ramp of Infinity Bridge in Deira all the way to the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Cairo Street. It will accommodate up to 12,000 vehicles per hour in order to ease traffic congestion.
The 1.6km tunnel is part of the long-running multi-billion dirham Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. It encompasses three lanes in each direction and is set to help traffic flow between Infinity Bridge towards Deira and back. This will transform the crossing of the Cairo and Al Wuheida Streets from a roundabout to a signalised intersection and will connect the ramp of the bridge from Dubai Islands.
This project hopes to greatly benefit residents of Abu Hail, AL Wuhedia and Al Mamzar as well as major development projects like Dubai Islands, Dubai Waterfront, Waterfront Market and Hamriya Port. The project is part of a wider attempt to slash Dubai Traffic and make journey times quicker in the city. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority have been utilising Artificial Intelligence, lasers, and robots, as well as big road projects to improve traffic flow in the city.
